The U.S. led invasion of Iraq and the eventual overthrow of the regime of Saddamn Hussein created a void that allowed Islamic State to take control of the ancient city of Mosul, Iraq in 2014. For more than 3 years, Islamic State ruled Mosul with a brand of terror the likes of which the world had not seen before. Murder, rape and torture were features of daily life in Mosul. In 2017, Iraqi government forces, with the assistance of the U.S. led military coalition, were able to wrest control of Mosul away from Islamic State. It came at a heavy cost, however. The resulting devastation was staggering. The majority of Mosul was simply leveled. Now, nearly 5 years later the world's attention has shifted away from Mosul. The world has moved on, but the residents of Mosul are still suffering. We hope to assist the residents of Mosul in their efforts to rebuild their historic city.
At Rebuild Mosul, our mandate is simple: select small scale reconstruction projects in Mosul, provide financial support for those projects and work hand and hand with the funding recipients to complete the projects. While the security situation in Mosul does not allow us to directly participate in the reconstruction projects at this time, we are hopeful that we will be building alongside our funding recipients soon. Our first trip to Iraq is scheduled for May 13-20, 2022.
Thank you for stopping by and thank you for your support!
